Default 1991 B10 Biturbo

Hello;

I purchased my 1991 B10 Biturbo in 2007 via a BMW enthusiast in Toronto. It was imported from Germany and shipped to Halifax, then Toronto, then Vancouver where I reside.

Alpina Green
Black Leather (no stripes)
166,000 km
Heated front and rear seats
Power rear headrests

Hey! Someone else in the Vancouver area!!!

I see you have a collector plate in one of your photos. Do you have your car presently registered as a collector? How was the process of getting the car registered as a collector? Do you get much in the way of savings in insurance premiums?

I'm thinking of getting my car registered as a collector, but if I don't get savings on my insurance fees, I don't see much of a point.

Hi Scooter:

Welcome to the club. Yes, my car is registered as a collector car. The process is quite simple, but the rules are it must be >15 years old AND less than 1500 wordwide production AND you must have another car registered with ICBC for work. You cannot drive a collector car to work or school.

Your B8 should meet this criteria. Its a huge savings, I pay around $600 per year for full coverage.

If you look on ICBCs website, there is a information on how to apply. All you have to do is take some pictures, fill out the application form, write up a letter explaining the low production of your car and submit it to ICBC. The application actually goes to an independent expert for approval (i.e. BMW Club of BC).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info

I have read through all of the ICBC stuff before, but I was just never really sure how much of a discount I'd get for having it registered as a collector. I have a Land Cruiser that I use as my DD and will continue to use it as such, so no issues with having another vehicle. I wish I could get collector plates on my Aristo as well. Then I could have insurance on three vehicles for the price of two

The B8 will just be a fun car for the weekends and probably driving other places during the week just not to work. I just have to get the fender repaired (shipping damage ) and then change the spark plugs, O2 sensors and fuel filter so it'll pass Aircare and then I should be good to go

I'm guessing you only drive your car in the warmer times of the year?

Yes, it sits in my garage during the winter months and I try and drive it when the sun shines

Thanks Mark. I'm not familiar with BCBimmer, but I'll check it out.

Hi quattro20v, you have a great looking car, I know your car very well from when it was imported and came to Toronto by Peter (from Germany), I am glad to see that this BiTurbo has gone to a good home and someone that can appreciate the Alpina cars.
