Definitely I take it on lots of short trips, but it was really nice to take it for a longer drive and use some of the V8 awesomeness to pass some slow pokes

Changed out the surround on the door handles tonight.

Before and after.

I had a chance to give the outside a decent detail yesterday. I wanted to do a light cut, but I ran out of time so I clay barred, used a swirl remover on the hood and just waxed the rest. Ignore the sun shield in the front LOL.

Looks really great. Can you tell me more about the swirl remover you used? That is something I need for the L7.

I used my Porter Cable 7424 with a light cutting pad and Meguair's #2 scratch and swirl remover. I think the results could be a bit better with a bit more aggressive cut, then the scratch and swirl remover and then a polish. It takes a lot of time and without a garage it's a lot of work for one day to wash, dry, clay bar, do multiple cuts and then wax.

You can do paint correction by hand, but it's a lot of work. If you have a couple of cars you are looking after I highly recommend the Porter Cable 7424. It makes waxing and paint correction soooooo much easier.

Thanks for the complement

One more small thing done today that has annoyed me from the start:

Before:

After:

A keen eye will spot that it's not exactly the same, but it is genuine from Alpina. Massive thanks to testdriver for sourcing the part for me

It wasn't quite the right size, so I spent some time with some sand paper to make it the right size. I didn't want to take some quick and easy route where someone would be able to tell it had been cut down to fit.

Worked on the driver's door panel wood trim this week. I actually don't like it, but it's what the car came with. As you can see in the second pic it's not as simple as just reattaching it. Holes were drilled in the panel to attach the piece, so if I want to have panels without the wood trim I'll need to buy replacement panels....annoying.

I have the same wood trim in my B3 and I'm also not crazy about it. But like you said, it's 4 new door panels to completely remove it, and actually I'm not sure if I could re-use my Alpina-cloth door cards with standard door panels?

Have you though about wrapping them? They have pretty good matte black vinyl wrap now, or if you want to get a little fancy you could do Piano black, faux aluminum or carbon fibre, etc.

No, I haven't, but that is a great idea!

Found this on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-x-3ft-3M-...-/181603038836

Looks pretty similar and it's 3M, so it's probably pretty good and it appears to be pretty similar to the original Alpina wood trim. I actually wouldn't mind it that much if the trim wasn't cracked all over the place. That 3M wrap might be the way to go so it still looks original.

I actually hadn't considered wrapping it with a wood-look. That is kind of genius. Now I want a dark (almost black) wood grain in mine
