do I belong here?...
Greetings, I´m in Mexico city, a year and a half ago, I purchased a C1 2.3, it is in a ferrari shop out in Arizona.
The thing is, its a 1983, I has ALL the alpina stuff: instruments, steering wheel, seats, wheels, and shift knob, but you never know right?. the seller gave me a copy of the original invoice from a dealer in germany, Autohaus Wilhelmstrasse, where it states BMW Alpina C1 2.3. and of course all the options. I called Alpina in the US, and they told me, that the car vin number was not an Alpina, wich broke my heart a little bit, but I was a little tenacious, and contacted Alpina in Germany, they asked fot the engine number, when I sent it, the very nice woman at Alpina answered in a week or so, telling me that the last four digits of the engine number showed it is an alpina motor, and the first numbers, must have been the chasis number ( wich it is ) , and that it matched their recors for an Alpina C1 2.3. here is the thing, it doesn´t have an Alpina plate, why do you guys think it doesnt have a serial number , like Ive seen on modern Alpinas? , is it because its an early car? please tell me what you think, I´m restoring the car, because I love it. Does my car and I I belong in this forum Best regards Anastasio |

1983? According to Alpina Archive production from Buchloe started in 1984.
http://www.alpina-archive.com/?page_id=48 Maybe it's an earlier one with the Alpina kit added afterwards? What build number is it? Or if you are willing to post the VIN that could help people check into it a bit more for you. |

its a puzzle right?, it wasn´t added on later, since the original sales invoice already sold a BMW Alpina C1 2.3, with all the options it has, I was just NOT sold directly by Alpina , it was sold by a dealer .
but who knows right? the vin number is WBAAH3109C8404978 it will return a chasis e21, manual transmision, but not more , I´ve tried other bmw i have, and they return a lot of data good luck and thanks for the help Anastasio |

Wouldn't happen to be this one, would it? Some good conversation in the comments and ultimately believed to be non-Alpina.

Alpina couldn't issue their own VINs until, I think, 1983 when they were recognized by the German Ministry of Transport. I think you should accept the word of the woman at Alpina in Germany that it is an authentic Alpina, but I would also ask Kees at alpina-archive.com |

We have to remember before Alpina was recognized as a separate manufacturer, they utilized the BMW VIN. I bet that this is the case with your car. If it was authentically modified by Alpina, as per what they were doing during the time your car was modified, and it sounds like it was as documented by the information from Alpina (if you do not already have it, I would recommend asking for that it writing from them), then I think that would settle any arguments.
