Interesting to see what this will go for out of Sherwood Park, Alberta.

It will be interesting, given that Americans are unlikely to bid on it. Wonder how much of BaT readership is outside North America.

Stirling - how high are you going to go on it? ;)

Who? What? Me?

:D Not high. Alpinas are junk. I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole. I've probably over bid already!

Everyone stay away from this car! :)

Did you win it? $8,600 USD is a great price for whoever got it.

Hi, I'm the lucky guy who won the auction on BAT. Flying to Calgary to pick up the car on August 7 then driving it back to Vancouver Island. Looking forward to an exhilarating cruise through the Rockies!! Will post an account of the trip if anyone is interested.

Congratulations on the auction win, you've got a gorgeous car there for a terrific price! It's great for us Canucks when the Americans can't bid.

Yes, we definitely want to hear about the trip and see lots of pictures.

Have you owned an E39 before? A comparison would be interesting.

Yes indeed. Daily drive a 2003 525i Touring. Love the car! Have put 45K kms on it and it's been the most dependable car I've ever owned.

Ha! Nice.
When do you pick it up?

Do you know of any other E39 Alpinas in Canada?

Fly to Edmonton Saturday, drive back same day+Sunday. I know of one for sure.
Put a deposit down on the exact twin of the one I bought. 40k more mileage, not nearly as good condition and a firm price of almost 15k. Still for sale I believe.

Something surprising I found on the official Alpina site. Evidently mine was the only b10 v8 sedan built in 1997. Since production of e39 based v8's started in 1997, I believe this car is the very first v8 sedan built. Explains the 0039#. One of One indeed!!

No, I don't think so. Any numbers before 0039 would have also been built in 1997. It may be the only '97 in Canada though.

There are a few other E39's around. There was one local to the Vancouver area for sale in the spring. I almost went to check it out, but I couldn't justify purchasing another car. There's one that's been for sale in Lions Bay for a while now, I think Velocity has one and there is another member on this forum that has an E39 Alpina as well (I believe also in the Vancouver area).

*Edit. I stand corrected, apparently #063 was imported into Canada in 2012 and it is a June 1997 build.

I was going by the numbers posted on the official Alpina site. Am going to contact them to inquire about the build sheet for the car. Perhaps they have more information.

Thanks, good info on that site. I thought it was odd only one was listed as built in1997.
In any case, very happy to have #0039 in my stable.

Maybe I was misunderstanding what you are saying...Are you saying it's the only #039 E39 B10 V8? If so, you are correct I guess, but that's the point of build numbers. It's the only one with that build number :)

Thank you Capt, I'm well aware of what build numbers mean.
