Looks like the odometer has been altered, but it also looks like it's been documented, so maybe the cluster malfunctioned and had to be swapped out or something.

These E30 M-Techs always look so tempting, but usually they are an auto. Rare find (in Japan) as you mentioned with it being a 5 spd :)
