It looks like the cold weather we had in Vancouver has taken a bit of a toll on my B8. Along with a couple of other small things the fan has stopped working. The last time I drove the car (maybe November or so) the fan was working fine at all speeds. In fact, I was surprised at how much air the old thing was able to move.

Since November I've had the battery disconnected. Now when I have connected the battery I have no fan on any setting. The B8 has the digital climate control for the E36, and from some research I may just need to replace the final stage unit (FSU). From my understanding the FSU is in the same place as the resistor pack from the earlier model E36's (which I've replaced before).

I've checked the fuses and they look ok, so does anyone know how I can test the FSU to be sure that is the cause? I'm hoping it is because I've replaced the fan on an E36 before and it's not a very fun job :(

Thanks Dwayne :) That write up will be a good reference for anyone else to doesn't know how to replace it.

I have just shy of 100,000 km on the car.

So, yup, it was just the final stage unit. That rear torx screw was a bit of a b*tch to get back in, but I managed to do it with just a few battle scars.

Just out of interest here's the difference on the old part compared to the new part.
